Our History
When De La Vega family discovered Deland during a vacation trip to Orlando, they immediately fell in love with the town. Just one year later, they decided to move to Deland to be a part of such a great family atmosphere and to open their family restaurant, Penachos Mexican Grill, right in the heart of Downtown Deland.
This is such a unique town, just perfect for a unique family restaurant.
Originally from Queretaro, in center Mexico, Delavega family is familiar with unique cities. Queretaro City is about 100 miles north of Mexico City and sits upon the central Mexican Highlands at 6300 feet in elevation. History is the essence of the region. The center Mexico region was the heart of the nation's independence movement and this independent spirit has created one of Mexico's finest regional cuisines. In terms of diversity of appealing tastes and textures, it is one of the richest in the world; high in proteins, vitamins, and minerals.
Talented Chef Nora is the youngest child of De La Vega family. Her recipes are inspired by her mother, she uses the richest and most traditional ingredients like the ones found in the traditional mole poblano or enchiladas campesinas, but some of her dishes go beyond the traditional recipes. Using authentic Mexican ingredients, she creates adventurous specialties that offer the most satisfying combination of flavors, like Cinco Tazas and Nino Envuelto.
The food served at Penachos will be unlike any you have previously tasted. The complex spicing and fresh ingredients in the family recipes of the De La Vega family offer a unique culinary experience in Central Florida.
